Will people keep reading the 50 Shades of Grey books now that the hype has died down?

I think all modern best sellers go through a phase where everyone is talking about them, and they're flying off the bookshelves, then they seem to almost sink without trace, unless they're good enough to make it onto college literature modules. Maybe when E. L. James writes another book, there'll be another flurry of interest in them. I also enjoyed reading the books. I have them on an e-reader, and I'm sure I'll revisit them at some point.

 

You hit the nail in the head! I haven't read this book but I've read about it in so many places.

 

What's said is these books show how many unhappily married women there are out there. Just waiting for the next book to spicen up their droll and boring love lifes. We are really becoming disconnected as people. Which is odd considering marriage is supposed to be about a lifelong connection. But I guess that magic dies after awhile, and while the wife turns to romance novels or sordid taudry book tales, the man turns to porn, strippers, or his younger secretary. *Shrugs*.

 

I haven't read it but people seem to be downright obsessed with it just like they did with the Twilight books. So, yeah, I think people will probably continue to buy them for a while and of course the author and publisher will figure out a way to milk it for all it's worth. They'll probably come up with other stuff to sell related to the book like merchandise and the author will probably write a sequel or two. I think they'll be making lots of money for quite some time.

 

My mom said this was porn for mommies. That comment right there lets me know that I am not interested in reading any of them.

 

Yeah I've also read mixed reviews about the book, some say that it was a great novel, and it was very full of explicit sex narrations, while others dismiss it as trash that's just meant to arouse the people who read it. I'm not keen on wanting to read the book, though for curiosity's sake, if the book was made available to me I would read it to see what I will think about it.

But in general, everything has a popularity shelf life, whether it's celebrities, songs, movies, so the hype will eventually die down as expected. The question now would be if the novel will be able to stand the test of time, like the Harry Potter books or not.

 

I actually feel bad for anyone who loves these books (sorry, lol). If someone wants to read erotica, so be it. Nothing wrong with it. But herd mentality is a sad thing and this book made it for silly reasons lol. Every person that feels oh so naughty reading it, or would molest the main character if he ever found himself real and within 50 feet of them.. they ignore the fact that the abuse wasn't just in the bedroom. If this spiced things up for you, great.. it is just a book to me and probably to most people reading this post. But so outwardly praising the book, in my opinion, is sending the wrong message to young women who are new to the world of love and sex and when they see otherwise intelligent women praising an abusive relationship, it might make it easier for them to forgive if they ever find themselves in one. As long as he's hot right? Jealousy just shows how much he cares? I don't know.. I really wish the writer had kept it in the bedroom with these characters.. the herd would be more understandable; less dangerous. I'm glad it's fading.. it's definitely not worthy of "classic" status. Hopefully the next one will be smarter with it's characters.

 

Supposedly there's a 50 Shades of Gray feature film in the works, so when the movie comes out ,people will be interested in the book. Sadly ,there's a whole segment of the population that won't read a book unless it has a companion movie or is based on a movie.

I'm not interested in the 50 Shades books. If I want to read erotica or watch porn, I'll do it openly and choose high quality stuff, not hide my activities by reading a novel which is just disguised porn.

 

From what I have read on the matter, Fifty Shades appeals to a certain group of people. Basically these are people who had never had an adventurous sex life. So the book is kind of like a release valve for them. It gives them ideas which had never occurred to them before. Of course, for people who are familiar with sex, there's nothing new in the book. But then again, not everyone is familiar with sex. Yes, that's true. You would be really surprised if you were to do an impromptu survey. A lot of people know very little about sex. So Fifty Shades is very exciting for them.

 

Wait, it's more than one? One friend that read it said it was awful and recommended me to waste my time with something better. Guess it doesn't go with many people...

 

Seems popularity of 50 Shades of Grey series don't last long. I was once impulse when this book were widely discussed. Until now, i have not finished reading it.

 

Because of my love for 50 shades of Grey, i will have to resurrect this thread. I'm an avid reader, and with or without the hype i will still read the series. I'm just done with 2nd sequels. Hoping to finalize with 'darker' version. It's the best read i have ever head for a while now after Stephen King!
