Occasionally I like brown rice, but I tend to stick with white because it's a little quicker fix. Sometimes, also, I'll go for a box product like Uncle Ben's or Rice-A-Roni. Still, overall, it's plain old white rice in a bag. No instant. Ever. Though I don't know why. Instant is probably pretty tasty too. How about you?

I tend to like to use instant rice when I can find it. No, seriously I sometimes have a hard time finding this product because I can't always get to the major grocery chains where its readily found. I go to a grocery store near my home but I can't always find instant rice there or in my favorite dollar store. I like the convenience of instant rice. It can be used as a side dish but also in cooking, for example it can be added to a slow cooker when making soup. I just find this to be a versatile product, I really don't buy regular rice in a bag any longer.

I generally use basmati or sticky white rice. Though sometimes I'll use Arborio when I do my chicken and orange sauce mixture. I'm not really big on rice, I'm more of a pasta person, haha.

I love, love, love Basmati rice. I hate almost every other kind. I don't know why, but basmati doesn't even taste like rice to me, it is so light, fluffy and delicate. It also has a distinct flavor to it, when other rice is tasteless to me. I have also tried brown basmati and it is good, but not the same as white.

The other kind of rice I can sort of tolerate is the Knorr flavored rice in a bag. They have a cheddar broccoli which is ok.

Basmati rice is pretty versatile, it's not very fluffy and has a great nutty flavor. It's actually pretty good for making paella.

Japanese fancy rice is on the other side of the spectrum, very glutinous and tasty as well. It's delicious on its own or with some egg and beef on top.

I absolutely LOVE rice! I can eat it every day! I especially love Basmati and Jasmine rice they are my favorite. I also enjoy the flavored rices but some of them can be high in sodium. I don't really care for instant rice. I prefer to buy regular rice and take the time to let it cook. I use to only buy Uncle Ben's white rice because I liked how it did not stick together. Now, I wonder what it is they do to Uncle Ben's rice so that it does not stick? What exactly is converted rice?

What's great about brown rice is that it has more nutrients and fibers compared to white rice. Though both may have more or less the same amount of carbohydrates, white rice has higher homocysteine content. People who habitually consume white rice are more at risk of contracting heart disease than those who prefer brown rice.

I tried a lot of varieties of rice because I was determined to find a good substitute that had less calories but none of the options I've tasted were Good enough for me to stick to it as a staple in my diet. I've tried brown, black, and red, and so far the red comes closest but from what I understand it's not that much different from white rice so I just go with white nowadays. It's easy to cook and it tastes great so I will just cut down on calories elsewhere.

I used to scoff at the thought of cooking instant rice for many years, but I started using it again, and honestly, it's really not that bad at all when you are not in the mood to wait 30-45 minutes for regular rice. I read how it's made and all they do in many cases is simply rough up the surface of the rice grains so they absorb the water faster.

If I have the time, I will cook regular rice from scratch, but if I go through that trouble, I typically make brown rice or a wild & brown rice blend. One of my favorites is "Textmati" rice, which is some variation on Basmati rice. They sell it at Wal-Mart. I've found online a great trick for cooking it that's fool proof, and gives you fluffy rice which isn't sticky or gummy at all. Simply bring a pot of water to boil - about 10 cups of water for every cup of uncooked rice you plan to make, then boil the brown rice for exactly 30 minutes. After that, strain the rice and let it drain for about 10 seconds, then pour it back into the pot and put a tight fitting lid on it, and let it rest for another 10 minutes. That's it, the trick is all the excess water you're cooking it in, which draws out all that excess starch, which you then strain out.

The only drawback to this method is it kind of sucks if you like to cook your rice in broth or other liquids to flavor it because you need so much. In those cases I usually stick with an instant rice instead.

Only ever eat white jasmine scented rice. I'm very picky, I hate Uncle Ben's rice, and I have no idea what's the big deal with "cooking rice from scratch", since if you have a rice cooker, it's really just about washing your portion of rice, adding the normal amount of water and pressing a button.

I know brown rice would be healthier but I really am a one-rice kind of person.:D

Plain medium size white rice is what I like. Brown rice is okay, colored rice is simply colored, and wild rice doesn't digest well. Furthermore, I do not like instant rice at all and rather have my rice cooked from steam method than a rice cooker.

I personally don't love rice but typically use brown rice when I cook as a default for flavor and health. Though after making some Indian food I found out my kids are absolutely obsessed with Jasmine rice so that has become more popular in our rotation of rices in the kitchen.

Rice is one of my favorites and I've been eating it for dinner quite a lot lately. Rice is delicious and also healthy so I make sure to have it in my diet. Right now I eat white rice but there are times when I'll go with the brown. I plan on eating brown rice more often.

I recently started cooking Golden basmati rice. Its sort of a cross between American Long grain and normal basmati rice - I thin k it works well with most cuisines where a specialist kind of rice might be required. Works well with thai, indian, african and chinese dishes I find.

    Also easier to digest :)

Brown rice is much more healthy but it is very difficult to prepare hence I usually prefer to eat white rice. U believe white rice is much better when compared to brown when you have to cook in a hurty

I eat brown rice for health but like instant white with sugar and butter. Fried rice is also a favorite along with other entrees that have a sauce or marinade and use rice. I've tried the other rices but was not impressed enough to make a change.

I've consumed a lot of white rice in the past and am slightly disturbed by the thought that it increases the potential to contract heart disease, especially considering that its very much part of everybody in my family's diet. Do you know any good brown rice recipes?

Also what's your source for this information?
