Recently I was told by a doctor that waters with a higher ph (more acid) are better for our health. This was a surprise to me because I always thought that a neutral ph was the healthiest. Do you have any opinion on this?
Acids damage teeth. Taking water that's even slightly acidic would not be good for you. The acid will gradually dissolve the enamel in your teeth and . . . yeah, that isn't good for your health. Slightly alkaline water isn't good for anyone's health either. We can safely make the deduction that since 7 lies in between, water that's neither acidic nor alkaline is best for you.
Doctors don't cure people's illnesses, they only provide ways to fix them. You, Peninha, was correct in your judgment to keep a balanced pH level, and one can easily see the results of acidic water and what it does in nature: it dissolves things. A doctor may had specialized their selves to being more knowledgeable about what he/she does, but he/she does not know what is most beneficial to you or others regarding all circumstances and problems. I recommend researching more about your doctor's "opinionated advice" before acting for it, like asking another doctor or health specialist.
Where I live people drink water from the well. Hence apart from worrying about the general cleanliness of the well, there is nothing much to worry about. I believe that us the best part of it.
I definitely think you might want to check out the credentials of the doctor whose advice you are taking - drinking water that is acidic probably won't kill you but there is absolutely no evidence to suggest that is is beneficial to your health.
