I'm filling out my Paypal-profile, and they ask for both my Social-Security-Number (SSN) & my Tax-Identification-Number (TIN).

Aren't those both the same number? Shouldn't they be? If not, why not?

I mean, 'Social Security' is what 'Taxes' go to pay for; is it not? Or is it something like 'one code for receiving, one code for sending'?

(I could probably just look it up on Wikipedia, but it seems like something that we deal-finders should all know!)

No, they are not necessarily the same thing, but PayPal shouldn't be asking for both either. The tax ID number is usually for people who can't get a social security number, but will be filing taxes. Because you have an SSN, then that is also used for your tax purposes.
