I was talking to my mechanic neighbor the other day. One topic was preventive maintenance of the car that I said is getting to be expensive. But he pointed out that a car breakdown is prevented by that maintenance. Come to think of it, a car breakdown will require towing services and emergency repair which is very costly. From a simple computation, expenses for a car breakdown is more than the cost of preventive maintenance. And if you will include in the computation the stress that you will suffer then I guess preventive maintenance is worth the cost.
The same is true with computers. I've seen a computer that has lasted since the start of the decade. All that is done is maintenance like have a cleaning utility and anti-virus. Anyhow, with vehicles, it's incredibly important to get the oil changed and other related things completed on a regular basis. In that case, a vehicle might last for years. In the end, the maintenance costs far less than the repairs.
