I actually didn't point out the texting to the manager because he already got chewed out for not just checking my items himself and holding up the line. I was in a merciful mood that day and let it slide.

Also, while this may be a problem at Walmart, I don't have a problem with the store itself. I love it, it's one of my favorite places to shop.

Unfortunately you are going to find this at any store of similar characteristics, but especially Walmart. They pay cheap, but enough to get people to work there and truly seem to hire ANYBODY. argh!

Yeah, you go to Walmart for the good prices. You kinda know that the service it not going to be the best. Also, it's fun to people watch in Walmarts. Hey, maybe people are watching me, too. lol

It was most likely a personal issue - but what kind of personal issue? Does he/she have kids? Is the babysitter having issues or has something happened? Does the cashier take care of parents? Or siblings - perhaps older siblings with mental issues? Was the cahsier going through a breakup? I am just so curious now.

I've never had these bad experiences at Walmart and i've been to a number of different Walmarts in different states. It's really rude that he would be on the phone. He had a lot of nerve. If an emergency was going on at home, he should've told his manager so that he could handle it instead of trying to do his job and text at the same time. If it was not an emergency, then he really needs to be told.

I worked on a checkout in a supermarket briefly in between school and college and if I had been using my cell on the till I would have been fired on the spot. Not just because it is terribly rude for customers but also because it is a breach of security. We had a cashier copying the details of people's credit/debit cards into her phone while she was working and using those details to purchase goods on the Internet.

Ah, ok, fair enough. It sounds like he's probably already on his way to getting fired anyway if he's messing up like that. He doesn't really seem to care either or he wouldn't have been texting in the first place.

You're right, society never considers these things. When we find somebody messing up on the job, it's always them being unprofessional. When we do the same thing, we're just having a bad day.
