If you had the intention of buying anything from Sony's U.S store then you better buy that device pretty fast because . . . in about two weeks time, on August 28, Sony will be closing it's online store. No clear reasons were provided to explain why they were closing down the store.
That's strange? Maybe it's cheaper just to sell to these other places that can deal with the fulfillment and deal with warranties and things? It does say they will reopen with a smaller select selection of items. I just think offering too many products isn't possible or profitable.
Wow, that seems weird. With all these trendier brands making a lot of noise, you can be forgiven for almost forgetting about some of these older brands. BUT it's worrying that they're getting rid of their online presence, without so much as an explanation. Surely this is the direction they ought to be going, not taking so many steps back. I do hope this doesn't signal the beginning of the end for such a robust and reputable company.
I don't think they are getting rid of their online store actually but instead just revamping the website. I think it'd be really counterproductive to close off their online presence especially without any warning. On their main page they did post a warning now so I don't think this is the end.
Don't companies revamp their websites all the time, while still taking orders? It sounds to me as if they're planning a major revision of the types and numbers of products they produce/sell, which is sort of worrisome, since I have and like Sony products. This is the first I've heard of the situation, but I'll be staying tuned, to see what the actual changes are, and how they unfold.
I used to go to a Sony OUlet store when I was visiting my family at Grove City Outlets in Pennsylvania. It was a pretty good store and I bought a few things there. This was years ago. It closed maybe 10 years ago...I miss that store. I am sorry that Sony is clisng an online store because I think they do have quality products.
I hope they are not going out of business, maybe just revamping their online presence. Sony has been the standard for so long, they have always been one of my most trusted brands.
Me too. Back in the day, I used to love Sony and Aiwa products but now it's down to Sony and Bose, as far as old school brands go. I'm going to check them out now.
I do think Sony is struggling and has been for some time. I know my brother used to love their products but he stays away from them now because of quality issues. I think Samsung has surpassed Sony in quality.
Sony hasn't held the moniker as trusted brand for years now, at least in the consumer electronics industry. Companies have made better desktops and laptop for nearly a decade. Sony makes incredible smartphones, but the company has no market share in the world because of a poor marketing push for its mobile devices. Sony does make some great things, but the general public has turned a blind eye to the company as it has failed to keep up in certain areas. As for Sony's online store closing down, you can make purchases up until whatever the final day is, and you have to use gift cards before then or they essentially go poof and become worth nothing. You'll be able to take care of returns until all applicable return periods expire, even after the store itself closes down. So you don't have to worry about buying something on the final day and not being able to return it later if something is indeed wrong with the product.
I'm more inclined to think that its only going to be temporary and the reason why Sony are shutting down their online store is because they are currently in the process of re-vamping themselves - particularly as its rumored that they are wanting to reach a much wider audience than just the US - plus - as the announcement made in the email sent to all Sony store customers - did say - that they will "soon unveil a new online product showcase and more ways to shop " - it does appear to be that way.
As they are revamping, it might be the case that they will be opening specialist stores. Maybe one dedicated to the Playstation and gaming, another one for computing and phones etc, one for audio/visual etc.
I like the idea of this. I have 3 Sony televisions, and a Sony blu-ray player, and they all work well. The only issues I've had are unrelated to Sony, but are due to the YouTube issue and also apparently a Google issue, since it seems they are no longer updating my smart television. Every time I used to turn it on, it would start updating, but nowadays, I haven't seen one in quite a while, and my apps no longer work .
The PlayStation!... I believe the root of the problem is this video console, which fourth release was not as successful as expected. Add to this the fact of diversification that has ruined many other companies because when a company is good at manufacturing one thing, further diversification may contribute to success or to their ruin. Besides Sony, I can see Samsung going through the same pathway soon.
I didn't know that they were doing that. Thanks for letting us I know. We haven't really been to their website lately but I used to go on it all the time, I wonder why they are closing it down.
You are 100% and completely wrong. The PlayStation 4 is the fastest selling console since the PlayStation 2, which was itself the best selling console of all time. Sony is raking in millions from its video gaming hardware, and that's not the company's problem. Sony has fallen behind in other areas, like its ailing smartphone sector (even though it makes some of the best devices on the market). So no, it's not the PlayStation because the evidence says that's not the cause of Sony's woes. In fact, expectations for the PS4 and overall sales have been blown away. It's a bona fide success on most metrics.
Well, I don't doubt the console is selling at a fast pace, but complains about it are coming at the same fast pace, in addition and same as Samsung or even than Google (which has nothing to do here but same commercial practices) Sony is trying to diversify its presence in a way that is making their product weak when it comes to daily use and consumer satisfaction. I can't say it by own experience because I stopped buying Sony/Samsung products since a while back, but I found online newly posted complains and rants about Playstation 4 almost every day.
I don't know if you guys have noticed, but their online store is kind of messy anyway. They need to make some changes here and there. Maybe they haven't explained well, and I might be wrong, but I personally believe this is happening solely because they're quite behind compared to other companies, and need to adjust their site to industry standards. It's fine with me!
