I would certainly rather adopt a pet from a shelter rather than buying one. Its just that there are no available pet shelters here in our country and the only way that you can get a dog with a breed is through pet stores.

Personally I bought my dog from a very good friend of ours, but when I get my next dog whic is going to be a miniature pincher, I WILL GET IT FROM A BREEDER. what I suggest watching cesar millan mastering leadership volume number 2 to find out how to approach and train a dog from day one. It was very helpful for m to actually get my dog to listen to me

At the rate that NYC Animal Care and Control kills animals daily, mainly for space, I would always urge anyone looking for a pet to adopt from the shelters, you are saving not only the animal yu adopt but freeing up a spot to give another animal a little more time to have a chance to be adopted or pulled by a rescue before they end up on the 6am kill list.
