    Me too! Lol.

And for all of you who are saying you get cheated on money..... I just don't understand. You can SEE the price at the checkout there, just as you can at a normal cashier. In fact, it seems like you'd be able to notice it even better because you're manually checking every item yourself. If you notice something wrong, you can get it fixed right then and there, just as you would otherwise.

Part of the success of the self scan registers will be on the store even more than the registers themselves. If the store has committed to making it a simple option, then they will have at least one or two people in the section with the manager's card ready to assist, especially with beer and wine. I've seen stores where it went flawlessly and depending on the person, they will even bag a few of the items if they see you have a lot and it will keep the lines moving.

Self-checkout registers are awesome! I use them all the time especially when the queues are too long at the regular checkout counters or if I am just purchasing a few items. I just don't see the point queuing up for 15 minutes just to get a can of soda and some chips especially when everyone else seems to be buying a month's worth of groceries! If I purchase in bulk then would I head over to the normal counters since self-checkout registers are not flawless and if you are purchasing a large number of items, you'll probably run into one or two hiccups that still would need a human to resolve. Besides that, I don't have much problems with self-checkout registers overcharging or always failing me. As long as you know how they work, you should not have too many issues with them!

I prefer self scan registers, actually. I find that usually the line is much shorter and moves more quickly.

If I am going to purchase a handful of things self check outs are the best! If its too much it becomes complicated because you just start to run out of space then the machine doesnt calculate the weight correctly etc etc. It always seems though that these things mess up when you are in a hurry. It'll randomly not scan a barscan or put up the wrong item on the screen, mess up the price etc. My mother always ends up in a yelling argument with the machines - even name calling them. Its hilarious.

I only use the self help registers when I don't have a lot of items to check out. I have found the registers to move along faster than when you use a clerk to check your purchases out.

I agree! I feel like with the self scan it's easier for me to check the prices rather than have a person scan so fast I can't tell what the price is. In some stores you can't even see the price come up if a cashier scans it.

As much as I like the actual idea of these, I've always been wary of them. Because I had this idea if you had a pricing issue, just who would you turn to for help?

That shouldn't be too much of an issue as the register will usually signal that there is an issue and someone from the store will come over to not only assist you, but to reset the register. So, if that's the only thing that is stopping you, don't let it.

Not quite. Although you are able to see the prices and determine what you want to save, sometimes the prices aren't updated. I currently work in a grocery store. When you're with a Checker, you are able to question the item's price and have a Courtesy Clerk check the item and have the price adjusted. Yes, you also can during a Self-Check Out, too. But what if you aren't aware about the price of certain items? Granted, you're shopping and not memorizing the prices of each item that you grab. Most Checkers are supposed to know the sales each week within the store. If you buy an item that is considered a sale and is not scanning correctly, they can catch it and make sure to give you the right amount. A computer will not. And when the time comes that you realize you paid too much is when you're at home staring at your receipt angrily, wanting your money back. And that will yet be another trip to the grocery store and more gas to be wasted just to get $1-2 in difference of an item that you didn't catch at the register.

The people who have stated that the Self-Check Out cheats money, probably went through this scenario once or twice. :)

I am just old fashioned and I really detest the whole idea. It is ridiculous that these stores are getting so cheap that they don't even want to hire anyone anymore. If I am going to shop in a store then I expect to be waited on, plain and simple. I have not seen one of these ever but I would call for a cashier rather than wrestle with them.

I typically tend to go to the self check out registers because I feel like I can get it done faster than the cashier. Also, I can bag my own groceries the way I want and make sure everything is efficiently done. Sometimes though I do have to be careful and make sure all of the prices are correct when I ring everything up.
