I don't donate to the Salvation Army specifically because of this. In fact, I find the bell ringers they have standing at all those stores to be nothing short of obnoxious. Good riddance the holidays are over. There are plenty of other more legitimate charities to give to.

This doesn't surprise me at all. The Salvation Army are supposed to be a charity but they are given very lucrative government contracts over here in the UK. They exploit the vulnerable and make a tidy sum in the process!

Well do you think it's the Salvation Army themselves doing this? Or are certain people within the organization going rogue and are corrupt? I would hate to think the whole organization from Europe to the U.S. and vice versa, has just become like the mafia. Shaking people down and stuff.

That is very sensible. We know they use the money to buy drugs or alcohol and that isn't helping them at all. I do the same when I pass homeless people and I have spare cash on me, I will buy some food or something they can use to improve their situation.

I like to think people are good and that those committing such heinous acts are a meager minority. I like the idea of the salvation army and want to support it.

Like some of the others that have responded to this post, I haven't heard anything negative about Salvation Army not housing certain people because of their sexuality. The Salvation Army in NC offer rooms for people from all walks of life, they don't offer rooms to couples that are not married. Other than that I haven't heard anything about their charity that's dishonest.

This is the first I've heard of it, as well. I'm going to really have to do some more research and think on this before I donate again. It's so disappointing, too. I always admired what they stood for.

I will never in my life condone picking and choosing who to help when they need it. I find it disgusting and I won't give any money to places like them. I don't believe a word they say and I don't support their views. They have plenty of like minded people to line their pockets, I don't feel guilty for turning my back on them.

I was surprised to read this thread as the SA housing block in my city will put anyone on the waiting list, regardless of who they are. I have never heard of them turning anyone away because of their sexuality. Hopefully, there are just isolated incidents.

They do it world wide, they have put up so many big structures in Africa and there staff are well paid, I do not know why they go all over ringing bells, yet in almost every large supermarket, you find their coin tin at the cash regestra, they are a big and rich organization.
