The trend in modern day business is issuing sales code to every salesman in the business. I think this is to evaluate their performances in terms of sales after a period of time. Sometimes trying to make a sales two or more salesmen may have to help out convincing the customer. The problem another salesman, who thinks he did more to convince the customer to buy, would want his code there irrespective of whether he was the first to attend to the customer or not.
Sales code can be really helpful but only if they are used to some extent. Most sales people aren't good in making sales while others are very good. The code will help to separate them. If the code may cause selfish acts and other fraudulent activities it's better to try another method of evaluating your sales team.
