I have quite a few cookbooks which are probably from my early twenties. Since Pinterest was born I must admit I never buy cookbooks. I find it much more convenient to save a recipe on Pinterest or other apps instead of pulling out the heavy cookbook. Although, I do occasionally browse the cookbook section at Chapters I find myself sighing and replacing the book back on the shelf thinking "I could find the only one recipe I like in the book on Pinterest". It is sad to think that so many work so hard at creating these books for us to utilize, yet we gravitate to technology to replace the cookbook. Perhaps I will pull out those cookbooks in my closet and skim through them once again.
I haven't bought a cook book in well over a decade. They just take up too much space, and I really don't need all the recipes in them - there are usually just 2 or 3 recipes in each book that I like. Besides, you can just as easily get them at your local library and simply copy the recipes that you do like to keep them on hand. The one thing I do like about recipe books though vs. finding recipes online, is that they are generally a little more "tried and tested" before the book goes to print. Whereas online recipes aren't always as dependable - let's face it, some of the people posting their recipes may be awful cooks who really don't know what they're doing. I've been burned many times by amateur recipes. Sometimes I wonder if some of these people even tried their recipes, or just simply wrote them up to add content to their blog/web site.
Hey. I often use the Internet to learn the recipe. But it is better to share with others who are already preparing for their prescription and knows all the nuances.
I used to buy cookbooks because of the beautiful food photos. But then I would only cook two recipes out of a 300 page book. That wasted bookshelf space added up. The cookbooks weren't worth cluttering up my space for a couple of recipes. So I started pinning individual recipes on Pinterest and it's so much easier to organize them online and just click on the recipes I need. Pinterest is one of the best inventions ever.
When I started cooking, cookbooks are beginning to get outdated so I don't really know much about them and all I know is that they contain recipes. However, being a kid who grew accustomed to the internet, I was heavily influenced into using things that I find online rather than those that I find in books. That's why I look for recipes online rather than on cooking books.
I haven't owned a cook book in years. That being said I do have a recipe tin where I keep my recipes in case something happened to my computer. I usually find recipes online and try them or doctor them up. I find it is free and usually more convenient especially when you're in a pinch. I mean they have websites that allow you to put your ingredients into then they give you a list of recipes! Saves so much more time.
I have a few cookbooks but generally I prefer to use the internet. With sites like Pinterest it's easy to find any recipe you could want with just a few quick searches and clicks. I also like to use Yummly which is basically a directory of recipes complete with pictures like Pinterest has. I find that online recipes tend to be easier to find that cater to allergies as well. Personally I find I can get far more interesting recipes to try out online than I can ever find in a single cookbook. And with the added bonus of it being free this makes it even better.
I can't say I've used cookbooks in the past; sure, I have actually bought them, but they are in a corner collecting dust. I seem to get excited over shiny new cookbooks, but for some reason, the novelty almost always wears off soon after I've bought them! So I've stopped buying and now prefer to look for recipes online as and when I need them.
My preference is online recipes. I have several cookbooks that I still use from time to time and a folder filled with recipes from family and friends that I use a lot too. I still love the beautiful food photos, but I don't see myself purchasing a cookbook per se, maybe a food and travel book would more my style.
I always look up recipes on the internet but I'd love to own some cookbooks. There are so many out there with unique recipes. I use the internet when I haven't planned ahead of time and need quick ideas. A cookbook would better help me plan ahead!
I like cookbooks but I haven't bought one for a while because I have so many of them anyway. I like to flip through them and to look at the pictures of food. I look up recipes on the internet as well. I find it hard to use the recipes from my iPad because the screen keeps going off and I always forget to set a longer time before the screen goes out. I like using cookbooks better though. I still have my mom's cookbook from the sixties and I love to look through it and see how different recipes were back then.
I love cookbooks, and they don't have to be from the "Famous Chef" kind; any will do. I no longer purchase cookbooks anymore, and strictly acquire the online. I guess I only acquire recipes online because they're free. I don't know but although online recipes are more convenient, cookbooks have a magical quality in my eyes, I don't know, they remind me of childhood, my grandparents, holidays. That sort of stuff.
It depends. Sometimes I like to use a cookbook if it is a Mexican or Moroccan recipe because those are the kind of cookbooks I use. Otherwise I also like to refer to the internet for simple recipes, such as cookies, pancakes or similar. It can be a lot of fun. The women in my family prefer cookbooks over anything else.
I love looking at cookbooks, and finding interesting recipes, that I almost never make, lol. The internet is my go to resource these days, but I love to look at the pics in cookbooks, and some recipes are tried and true favorites. Some of them have been crafted with love. I will never outgrow my fondness for cookbooks, even though truly, I am not sure when the last time was I used one as a resource.
I vote for going online. Books are big and don't usually have everything I'm looking for. That's the reality I can't really deny. If I want something to prepare, I go online and almost every time I see a lot of different versions how to make something. There are no exact rules that are set in stone when it comes to creative cooking, right?
I feel like cookbooks are better if you are looking for a more traditional way of doing things - a more homely way of doing things. Also, if the recipe is in a book you don't have to worry about saving any links or anything like that. But online recipes are so much more convenient. You don't have to carry a book around with you in order to access a specific recipe.
As someone who love and enjoy cooking, I both love buying physical cookbooks as well as searching for recipes online. What I like about physical cookbooks is that you can easily access them because they’re already bound. With online recipes, you have either go inline to view the recipe or print them out for reference. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages.
I love getting recipes online, I have found some really good ones over the years! And there seems to be several recipe choices for just about anything you could possibly want to make. There is still one kind of cookbook that I like to look at and might buy. The ones from the ladies at the local churches or clubs. Those are some really nice books.
