It is common for us to have leftovers that we keep in the fridge for a a day or 2 until we have it consumed. But aside from leftovers, there are foods that go to waste. First is the expired canned goods. Second are the drinks like soda and fruit juice. There’s also the milk in the carton. If you stock on these food items, have a regular check of your food cabinet for the expiration date. It is a waste to open a can when it is already expired.

Food spoilage can he a huge waste. In the case of perishable foods, care must be taken to avoid their destruction. Good storage in the fridge prevents microbial activity on the foods hence they can stay longer.

We do not stock food that are prone to expiring anymore. we just sold our fridge and so no stocking of food. What we do is keep things like flour, rice, dried fish , grains and onions. This are just some I mentioned. They rarely spoil. We can keep food that can last for weeks or months. We also cook just enough or food that can last for 3 days.

I think the best time to really stock up on food is if you see you may be quitting a job, trying to go on a budget or if winter is coming up. It is best to know when the best moment is to stock up and what to stock up on actually. When it comes to canned goods, you should look at the expiration date before hand and see if it will last more than two months.

I'm sure wasted food isn't good for you and our family often forgets to take out old food. Note, this problem would especially be bad for the elderly. Anyway, I think expired meat would be the worst and possibly lethal. Therefore, in regards to senior care, it should be a top priority.

Oh, by the way, another situation of some victims of dementia is when they leave food in the car overnight. However, they might accidentally take such food in the next day - thinking they bought it that day.

They have a food storage app for that these days(haha), no need to worry-and it can help you out quite a bit with your shopping and storage. You can plan the usage as far as shelf life and expected consumption rates as well. Everbody is on a budget today, so these apps can help you with your perishable food items and provide notification for when they expire-also some of these apps have recipes as well.
