For a lot of people, buying your own property was the be all and end all. These days though I know a lot of people who are on the property ladder that are struggling to make ends meet. Renting is becoming more popular because even if you can afford to buy and pay for a property, people don't factor in how much it cists to maintain that house as well. With renting its a lot easier, when something goes wrong its a quick call to the landlord or agency, you don't have to find the cash yourself.

I own my own house and it's like a millstone around my neck at times. There's always something expensive that needs doing, and nothing is ever quite finished. The joy of renting is that someone takes care of all these things for you. It might cost more in the long run but the convenience of renting shouldn't be underestimated.
