I heard some people at the dog park talking about indestructible dog toys the other day and didn't even think to ask about them. My puppy has chewed through every toy I've gotten him, including a solid rubber ball. I've seen some supposedly indestructible dog toys at the pet store and online, but I was wondering if anyone has gotten them for their dogs? Are they really indestructible? What are the brands to look for or avoid?

I don't know product that has these characteristics. It´s interesting to know that this is because dogs tend to destroy everything that used as a toy. That's important when they are puppies, because they can develop their teeth, but then it gets annoying. I think there aren't indestructible toys. Maybe there is durable toys or products manufactured with special materials. However, it's important that dogs have fun, and the "destruction" is part of that game. Animals need to change their environment to feel comfortable and interaction with toys is important to strengthen the feeling of ownership. I prefer to use traditional toys.

We tried a lot of dog toys when ours was a puppy. When we took her to puppy socialisation classes they had indestructible toys, and she was the first puppy they had there that managed to destroy them! The one that has lasted the longest for her is the Kong toy. The other bonus is that we can put food and treats in it which she loves to try and get out, it keeps her occupied for ages! When they are little they just love to chew though, so it's worth getting things for them to chew on, especially when they are getting their big teeth. She destroyed half the house, but that's just what some puppies do!

I've never heard of an industructible dog toy, so I looked it up. Looks like there are a number of sites that sell them. Here is one of them:

And, although I wouldn't call them industructible, those stuffless squeak toys that look like flat road kill last a good while with my dog.

I wasn't aware of indestructible dog toys. My dog Lyra somehow chews through everything. All her toys don't even look like toys anymore; more like pieces of scrap. After seeing your post, I did check the internet and came across some really interesting options. These indestructible dog toys are well priced too, varying between $6.00 and $15.00. I may consider buying a few since my dog is very playful and a total brat. You can check this link too

I haven't heard about indestructible dog toys. But I think it will be great to give dogs that they can't destroy when it gets through their teeth. I'm kind of pissed when they are everywhere and destroying just about anything they bite. Thanks for bringing this up and giving us idea though.

My dogs Lady and Oliver destroy everything, if they can chew on it, they will destroy it. Thank you for the links provided here, I am going to check them out and see if maybe I can get them some indestructible toys or at least something that will last much longer than a day or two!

We have a 5 year old Labrador, and I don't think any toys are truly indestructible. I think some last better than others. We have bought several "guaranteed" indestructible toys from all sorts if pet stores and none of them have lasted. The only one that made it was a rubber treat holder by Kong, but the dog stops playing with it as soon as he gets the treat. Kong makes a lot of treat/toys. They're all rubber. Our dog has done well with them, but they aren't truly toys.

I buy my Lola new toys once a month. I don't like to spend a lot on toys because I know they are about to meet their death. :p I was in Petsmart one day and saw a cute little pig toy. It was made by Martha Stewart. The only reason I even stopped was because it was on sale. Like $2.00 for a $5.00 toy. So I sad let me try it out. I couldn't believe she didn't demolish it for 2 months! I couldn't believe it. It was very durable. I would definitely recommend her toys. Great quality.

Agreeing with few of you; the toy called Kong is a very durable toy even for the larger dogs as they're made of strong rubber material.
My friend has a German Shepherd male and the Kong toy lasted for about three years.
Also, treats can be put inside the toy for extra fun. :D

I have the same problem with my Yorkie Coco. She has never had a toy she couldn't chew to pieces in a few days for the 4 years I have had her.. Until I bought her a Kong Ball. She has had it for a long time and loves playing fetch with herself. It has a whole for peanut butter or cheese as an added bonus.

Truly indestructable doesn't exist...but kong xtreme toys come close, they're supposedly the strongest dog toys on the market. They're the only thing that keeps up with my 2 dogs that destroy every other toy.

Well, the most sturdy brand of dog toy that I have used is this brand called "Nylabone". It was given to me by my cousin as a gift, and it is still in one piece and looks very decent like it has only been slightly used, when it fact, it has been manhandled and chewed on by several of our dogs already, some of them not not even alive anymore. So I would suggest to look for the brand "Nylabone".

The best thing I've ever gotten my dog is a huge rawhide bone. He's an 11 month old lab and it took him about two weeks to destroy. Not indestructible, but much better than other toys! The worker at the pet store told us it was a good bet and he was right. If you're not sure, talk to a worker. Tell them what kind of dog you have and how they act. If they're good at their job, they'll be able to tell you what to get!
