I hear so much about IKEA, but is it really cheaper compared to other furniture stores? What makes it so unique? I'd love to hear your experiences. Thanks!
IKEA is a Swedish furniture store. The furniture comes flat packed and you have to assemble it yourself. You can buy a tall floor lamp for $10, a side table for $7 or a set of wooden mixing spoons for 49 cents. They have an As Is room where I got a $59 lamp for $9 because there was a small smudge of dirt on the lampshade. They are low priced and some of the stuff is stylish but only a tiny fraction of what they sell is available to order online and their stores are in inconvenient locations for most people.
We have some pieces from Ikea. I do think it's cheaper, but you are putting everything together yourself. So factor that hassle in. I think it's fun to go and have a look around before making any big purchases. All the furniture is set up and you can wonder through. I really like there kids stuff, not just furniture. They have some nice toys and storage ideas. You can request a catalog from their website. We've only had our stuff for 2 years. It's holding up fine, but I can't say it will last 20 years. We have small kids and they're rough on it. It's one of the reasons we bought stuff there. No sense in spending a lot on stuff we know we will replace once the kids are bigger.
I don't mind putting things together, but when I look at their catalog, the prices don't seem that different. Then I hear stories of people getting $9 lamps!
I love Ikea. I always get a hot dog and a soda and then walk around and check it out. They have some really cheap stuff but don't expect it to be the greatest thing you ever purchased. It will do the job though. I have a coffee and side table that I bought for $20 together and they have lasted me a few years. The lesser quality stuff is still pretty decent in comparison to other furniture places. I don't like their couches to be honest but everything else is pretty solid.
Only from what I have heard, as I have never visited the store. As I am not handy. I think they are cheaper because you have to finish the product. I think it is a good deal, if it saves you money, and you get a decent product.
I think Ikea has style for a good price. Unlike say Walmart or Target who don't have style going for them. Also, the DIY aspect of Ikea assembly makes me happy. There is something fun about learning how to put a piece together. As with all stores, some of their products are cheap and don't last very long. But in general, I have bought cheap, stylish and good quality furniture from Ikea.
Ikea indeed sells furniture that is cheaper than most other places! The furniture that Ikea sells usually comes in parts packed into a flat box. While ready assembled pieces are around for display, you'll have to assemble that piece of furniture yourself when you get home and this is one of the reasons why Ikea sells furniture cheaper since labour for assembling the pieces is not required. The fact that they manufacture these items in bulk also helps to make their prices cheaper. Ikea stores are usually very family-friendly and I love shopping there with my family! Kids would love the huge place and Ikea also sells things such as plush toys, home necessities and electrical appliances, all at rather competitive prices! I would say that my overall Ikea experience has been great thus far and the furniture I have from Ikea are rather sturdy. I wouldn't dare to say they would last 20 years or more like a teak wood table, but they've been doing well for the past 5 years or so!
I have been to it a few times. Some things are cheaper and its good to go there when you are deciding to buy new furniture. There is some hassle for some people since you assemble it yourself. I dont mind it and actually enjoy putting things together. They have GREAT storage solutions and things for the kids rooms. There furniture is not first class but it definitely gets the job done. You can go to IKEA with your kids to considering most IKEAS have child centres where they can take care of the kids while you have a look around. But I usually don't need to do that since I just hand them a little IKEA Pencil and a piece of paper and they stay busy the whole time. Overall I think you will have fun shopping there and if you do buy furniture you'r wallet won't go empty because of the low-average prices. Great place all in all.
I like IKEA furniture, we have purchased several items from the store. There is a website that shows you have to customize your purchases,Log In
I love browsing Ikea and ikeahackers, but personally I have never been to an actual Ikea store. I do like the look and price of most of their stuff. I hope to one day live close enough to shop there myself.
I love Ikea a lot of the stuff in my home is from there. There are some great prices while shopping there just for regular furniture, unless you want branded furniture, you can go to Jordans, a place where they charge $20,000 for a table. Ikea to me is basically a place without branded stuff, and they just sell furniture at decent prices, and seriously unless you're super rich and want to blow your money, you can just go to Ikea to buy stuff, their stuff is decent, and you just have to self-assemble it, which if you do with your kids can be extremely fun!!!
I don't really go there often, but from what I've heard they're not to bad. I think if you are going to buy something there its worth investing in a little more more money (Say, $10). That way, at least you'll be getting something of a slightly higher quality.
