Okay I been using Hulu for a few weeks and I love it. First it is free for some shows and movies which is pretty cool but I went ahead and just paid for it so I can have all the shows I want. I gotta say I love hulu it's always updated on the shows and seasons if there is a season of a show I can't find on Netflix than hulu usually always has it I think it's great! Does anyone here use hulu? Do you have the free or paid one? What are your opinions on hulu?
Hulu is so good, It has a much better selection than netflix. The service actually makes me feel as if I got my money's worth. It's quite a shame that most people don't give it a try, instead they automatically go to netflix. I recommend Hulu to anyone, you won't be disappointed.
I agree it had a lot better selection than Netflix and it's always up to date on new shows and what not where is Netflix seems to never update their selection.
We had Hulu Plus and Netflix and just recently canceled Hulu Plus. I agree Hulu Plus has an excellent selection of shows, but our problem with it was, I feel, if you pay a monthly fee for a service like Plus, you shouldn't be forced to still watch the ads. The movie selection was also bare bones, though I suppose most people don't get Hulu Plus for the movies! I'd rather wait for Netflix to receive the shows, and just use the free Hulu service to supplement!
A few months back, I did the free trials for Hulu Plus and Netflix. I cancelled Hulu Plus and kept Netflix. I agree that the ads on Hulu Plus are annoying. I don't mind them on the free version, but I don't want to pay to see ads. I enjoy the selection on Netflix more too. I suppose it depends on what you want to watch. I like to catch up on old TV shows that never watched and Netflix is great for that. And for some reason, I discovered that I like a lot of UK shows which are only available on Netflix.
I am glad that I read this thread. We are going to cancel our local cable service. We were starting to look at Hulu plus and Netflix. If I am ordering an extra line or package with the Hulu plus, I don't want to watch a whole bunch of ads. Can you fast-forward through the ads? Or do you have to watch the ads no matter what? If so, I don't think I would like to spend the extra money for the Hulu plus even though it's cheaper than the local cable. We have tried Netflix in the past. It was their free two-week trial. We enjoyed it, but we did not see a lot of shows that we would watch all the time. I know that some people receive both Netflix and Hulu plus. That way, they receive up to date TV shows with Hulu and older TV shows and movies with Netflix. Usually combining the two programs is cheaper than your local cable.
That's my problem with hulu too I don't think their should be ads If you are paying for it. Usually ads are when it's free I have thought about writing them and asking them what the deal is with the ads.
I agree Netflix is great for movies and old tv shows. I like hulu besides the ads cause it usually has the recent shows that I missed so If Netflix misses a season I usually find it on hulu.
I use them both. They sorta balance each other out. But yes you have to watch the ads and you can't skip them that's the only down play of hulu plus. It's not to many ads tho If you can handle it, it's not that bad I hate ads but I can handle they aren't long just 30 seconds.
So I'm the only one that thinks Hulu Plus is crap period. What a surprise. I'm usually in the minority anyway (that's why they discontinue all my foods at the grocery store). I browsed their selection and they have more of what I'm looking for in the free version. Even then there's only a few episodes. Most of the shows they have that I would like I can get easily on the TV. I don't understand the hype. The crazy thing is I got a reward through an app for a 1 week trial and that's the same as you can get on the website as you still have to remember to cancel it so why give it to me? They sent me an email for a 2 week trial. They are desperate. I threw it away.
I recently got Hulu plus. I think it's fantastic. I mainly got it for my children, but once I realized that it had all of the other shows I liked to follow on it I became more interested. I am also excited about the SpongeBob episodes. When nap time comes around for the kids, I grab me some cookies and milk, get relaxed on the couch and enjoy the Sponge-I-nator! Don't tell my kids though..ha!
While I do appreciate the fact that Hulu Plus gets shows faster than Netflix, I don't think the service that they offer justifies the price imo, especially with the inclusion of ads. I wish Hulu would go ad free, as it would put pressure on Cable providers to limit their ad content as well. It's the same thing with land line cable, why am I paying like $75-$100 for programming, when like 40% is all ads. I'm paying for the privilege of being advertised to all day. Speaking of which, the ads themselves these days have gotten out of control with all the obnoxious gimmicks they are using to try and grab your attention and drive you nuts. Every freaking commercial these days is ridiculously loud, has some annoying screaming, whistles, horns, explosions, some woman moaning orgasmically, atrocious music, etc... Even the "CALM Act" which was supposed to address this seems to be having little effect, because they are finding ways to work around it and still drive people nuts. And while cable might be annoying in how they not only air these commercials, but keep playing the same commercials over and over again, Hulu is like 10x worse in this regard. It's not uncommon for me to see the same commercial 7 OR 8 TIMES in ONE SINGLE SHOW. Granted they have those ad rating options in the upper right corner, but they don't appear to have any real effect either because Hulu keeps showing me the same ads no matter how many times I tell them I don't want to see the ad any more. The only workaround to this mess is to just download all of your shows off of Hulu with something like Freemake Video Downloader. It takes a little extra effort in advance, but then you can watch all the shows commercial free. One other thing, keep an eye on your credit cards after you cancel their service. They started billing me again out of the blue three separate times after I had cancelled them, without my consent. I had to file several complaints to get refunds.
I have been considering cancelling my satellite and going with Hulu and or Netflix. I thought Hulu was best for more current shows and Netflix was for movies and older TV shows. I really appreciate this thread as it gives me information that will reduce my TV bill by a ton. Satellite TV has gotten so expensive and most of the programming is lousy. 200 channels and very little of it is worth watching!
Nope, you can't fast forward through the ads. I usually get up and do something else. Paying for both Netflix and Hulu Plus is still cheaper than cable especially in my area. A year of Netflix is cheaper than our cable bill. Granted this includes internet service, but I hate paying for cable TV.
I am glad to read all your opinions. A friend told me about Hulu and I couldn't find anything but odd ball movies and really old not that popular shows. I suspected Hulu plus was better but I was so turned off by Hulu, I never upgraded. After reading this, they either got better or maybe I needed to go "plus" all along.
I used to use the free version of Hulu before I had Netflix. The full-length movies were not always the best quality, but it was something to do when you were bored and had no other options. I realize things have evolved with the service recently, but I just never get around to watching TV shows and movies online because I am almost always working on something on my computer. I would need a separate machine to be able to watch and still do the things I needed to do.
I am with you there. I do a lot on the computer too so it's difficult to watch things on the computer. I wouldn't really enjoy it if I had to keep switching back. It's a shame that there's no free services on the Playstation 3 for streaming television show. You have to subscribe to Hulu Plus. Also smart TVs sound too expensive.
