In this part of the world, spending $20 per person is a good number for eating out. But more than that would be extravagance or the food exorbitant depending on quality. We sometimes dine in hotel restaurants that costs more than $20 per head but the food and variety make it worth the cost. Besides, most hotel restaurants offer the buffet style - eat all you can.

It is a little confusing because the title is about take out but the longer explanation seems to be about dining in. I will assume we are talking fifty dollars for take out? I guess I might be able to see that happening if it is a nice sit down restaurant and lobster is ordered for take out. It does seem like an awfully huge amount unless there is something special about it. It might also be that I live in a way less expensive city. I am horrified that a McDonalds meal can easily become a ten dollar bill if one is not careful. These prices seem a lot to me because ultimately the dollar amount does not match the amount of nutrients in the food.

Well, we don't eat out all the time and its very difficult for us to spend time with each other, so if it means that I will get to continue on in the path of our relationship, then it is definitely worth it. I wouldn't consider it a luxury, the both of us are vegetarians and finding food for vegetarians is normally very expensive. I'm not a rich person, but as long as I get to spend time with him some how, then I'm fine. This thread was not meant to pick at what I would spend on dinner.

Ain’t that the truth. I took my mom to Jack in the Box for a celebratory meal a couple of months back, and she was just astounded that we spent $25. We could have gotten a couple of calzones from my favorite restaurant for just a little more, or a pizza from the same place for less. Learned our lesson there. It’s part of why the only thing I’ll usually buy from most fast food restaurants is a beverage.

I would say that for 2 people $50 is too much. My boyfriend ordered Chinese for us, and it came to over $50 and it was crazy. Even his parents say that it was too much. I would never spend $1000 though. I think that a good amount would be about $30 when you two go out. That's about how much my boyfriend and I spend when we go out. It's also depending on where you go though. If you're going to a fancier restaurant then it's going to cost you more. So you also have to take that into account.

I recently did chinese take out for myself and two teens, it cost about $12. The boys felt their meal was a snack and I had enough for another meal. It depends on the size of your family and how much they eat to say how much is a good price for the meal. It cost me $84 for the same people plus one for birthday meals at a sit down restaurant. It depends on the restaurant also.
