I don't look far even when there is an unexpected ant invasion at night. Ants respond quickly to paraffin and all I do is to sprinkle it on them and only a small amount is needed due to its strong odour. In the absence of paraffin, you can burn a sponge and the pungent smell will repel ants shortly.
