Smartphones are quite often if you don't purchase with the plan that the mobile service provider offers. It can range from $300 to $900 on an unlocked smartphone. I don't usually buy unlocked unless I go travel to oversea, which it's very convenient to have an unlocked smartphone because I surf internet quite often. Do you know any store or online shop that sell cheap unlocked smartphones?
I don't know of any specific stores that sell unlocked phones but they are fairly easy to find. What I did was ask around some retail shops if they have something like this. The price difference isn't that big since it's just an unlock phone. Better still if you just do it yourself, free of charge just need some of your time.
I tend to get them from friends and family members that do not use them anymore. I am also part of an online trading community where lots of cheap stuff is thrown around.

These days there are already a lot of China brand smartphones sold for cheap but are still very powerful. I've come across multiple ones selling just a little over a hundred dollars and the specs on them are above average, especially when compared to their branded counterparts. The only downside of course is that they probably aren't as well designed and they might be a little less sturdy, but from the reviews I've seen they seem to be sturdy enough at least and they certainly seem worth it for the price.
Yes, China-made phones are flooding our markets in Metro Manila. They are cheap, all right, but the problem is the soft warranty, meaning they will try to fix or repair but there is no promise. Some of those smartphones are good and some are not so it really is a mix of lemon, I'd say. And for the price? Hmm, maybe they are worth because the cost about 10% of an iPhone so it is okay for others even if it doesn't last long. But me, I always prefer the branded with full warranty.
I did not know about the warranty terms, but yes, I guess it still is worn it to the right customer and if it is the right phone. I personally would just stick to the somewhat popular cheap phone brands when it comes to this because the really obscure ones I assume will probably have a higher possibility of being faulty, but those tend to be even cheaper so I'd still be willing to give them a try and maybe just consider them as slightly disposable.
That is the bane of the cheap and unbranded phones - the warranty is not really a warranty at all and you will only learn of the truth when something goes wrong with your phone. I invested in a new model Samsung which is not really expensive but not cheap like those China phones. At least I have peace of mind that my phone is guaranteed to work.
I actually prefer this method myself and just buy cheaper models of popular brands instead of going for the cheap brands because popular brands at least have some stake and accountability in wanting to keep their name clean and often even when their warranties are slightly off there is still infinitely better chance at getting your problem resolved with these brands as opposed to cheap ones, but I guess the cheap brands serve a different purpose like being a bit more disposable.
That's a good way of saving money - buying the cheap but branded phones. My husband is using a Mobile Cherry (I don't know if it is a local or international smart phone), it is branded but quite cheap, less than half of the cost of my Samsung J7. His reason is that it easy to buy again when something goes wrong that is beyond the warranty period. That brand is popular here because it is being advertised in tv all the time.
You really just have to shop around. I was facing this same dilemma earlier last month, where I was trying to find the best budget smartphone that I could, and after spending a week or so shopping around online, I found the Hauwei P8 Lite, and it is quite honestly one of the best budget smartphones that one could own.
My son gave me his old smartphone so that is the one I am using. However, I have seen Facebook yardsale group advertise cheap unlocked smartphones for sale, along with the plan that works with them..also craigslist may be a source. I suppose you have to hope they aren/t stolen though! Just be cautious.
Second hand smartphones are also a good route to take if you want a budget smartphone. I am not one for second hand objects anyway, but if there is one object that I could not do for second hand is my smartphone lol. I know people like to watch porn on their phone and all sorts, so I wouldn't be able to do second hand phones knowing that lol.
I wouldn't mind buying a locked smartphone if it suits my aspiration because the price of unlocking it is small compared to its cost. That said and done, its easy to acquire unlocked phones from people you trust though these are off the shelf. But there are also branded stores that offer this service as an after sales service.
What is the point of a locked phone? I am always hearing about locked phones, and people buying unlocked ones.. But I have never known the benefits versus the cons of having either a locked phone or an unlocked one. Are locked ones cheaper?
I am not sure if I would be comfortable operating an unlocked phone. I am not sure if we are talking about the same thing but I think that we are, and I am pretty sure they are illegal. Something like a phone, though, that I use everyday, is something that I want to have a nice one and a legitimate one, so these just wouldn't do it for me. To each their own though, and for some it might save them some much needed money.
