I make pizza at home on a fairly regular basis because to me it seems healthier than delivery. Once or twice we even turned it into a party and friends brought wine over and we all had a little too much to drink and made pizza. I rarely make my own crust and recommend the Trader Joe's crust because it is incredibly inexpensive but good, they have plain and herb--I have only ever bought the plain. Then we just make the pizza the way most people do, we rarely use pizza sauce because we find that too sweet so we just season up some regular tomato sauce. Add a little bit of cheese, we're not cheesy people and it adds a lot of calories, some veggies and then throw it in the oven.
HAAAAA! I did this before when I was a teenager. I miss doing it because I was really good at making homemade pizza. Yeah, I did this a lot and the ingredients were not that expensive. You are right about the fact that if you are a beginner, it will be time consuming. As I did it more and more, the time didn't effect me because I got done with fixing my pizza rather quickly. I was such a pro!
I love making home made pizza but I don't look forward to kneading the dough. All that changed when I found an old bread maker machine at a yard sale for $5. The machine will knead and rise the dough just by throwing in all the ingredients. No more sticky fingers and flour everywhere. All that's left to do is push the dough into a baking tray and add your toppings. I use it at least once or twice a week to make pizza and every other day to make bread rolls. It saves so much time and effort if you can find one cheap.
Interesting to know Trader Joe's has a pizza crust. Does it come cooked like Bobli's crust does or is it the kind in the freezer section where you roll it out? I have never made homemade pizza at least not recently and the prospect does sound appealing considering all the junk that's probably in traditional take out.
