Google is most popular search engine in most countries but in China most people use Baidu.com. Actually Chinese citizens face a lot of censorship, that's the reason why most popular sites in the Western countries are banned there. You might be surprised to learn this but Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, Blogger all theses sites are banned in China. Instead they have their own version of these sites and people have no option but to use them.
Baidu rules in China, and Yandex in Russia. Google is the #1 search engine worldwide except on those countries. I think this is because of the government regulations on those countries. We all know China is the closest to a dictatorship. They censor a LOT of things and prohibit access to many webpages. Many search results in Baidu are manipulated (and no, this isn't a conspiracy theory, it's actually true and can be checked) by the government so that Chinese people can't actually find real information, say, on a historic event or war.
Russia and China won't really do much business with Google. Their people would get all sorts of crazy ideas about free speech and then you'd have an uprising on your hands. I think Russia though is more than likely to be overtaken than China. Putin is really disliked more and more there each day.
Some other search engines have presence in different countries around the world, but Google generally is the biggest everywhere. It is easy to see why google is seriously amazing, it is rare myself or anyone goes a day without using it.
Yep. Not to mention they have their own social media icons and services. Which helps promote google even more.
Wow I actually didn't know that. Now it makes sense that I haven't seen anybody from China posting to Youtube lol. Thanks for the share.
Most of use different sites than we do. For example, Skype is, right now, the #1 piece of software for videocalls and chatting. They use QQ for that. Still, there are others who browse the net just like anyone else in the world does. They use proxies to use Facebook (which is banned there) or YouTube, even though that may get them in trouble. I'm thankful I live in a country where I'm allowed to do whatever the heck I want online, and in the real world too.
Used others in the past before the Big G was even around. I did use on called Dogpile and I used Yahoo. I know yahoo is still around. At a point some years back I had several and if the first didn't give me enough I would try a different one. Now Just Google it. I don't even think of trying others. Oh well, things do change. Google is quite popular all over the world, as it is a very well known global brand. Honestly, to give you an idea of how famous it is here is an article detailing the translation for "googling". I do know, though, that some countries have very well established home-grown search engines that people use, but Google is by far the most common.Log In
Google could be said to be the best search engine for the following reasons: It relies on a simplicity that many other search engines lack.
Google is popular but one of it's competitors "Bing" is popular too. I'm not sure if it's featured in other languages though. I use Bing or MSN.com for searches in addition to Google.
It sucks to be in those types of countries where there is no freedom of speech and expression. These countries that ban these types of sites certainly have a lot of things to hide. Anyway, I checked out Baidu and was surprised to see it very similar to Google (except for all those Chinese characters). Check this out:
The thing is, Baidu only looks like Google search in terms of cosmetic appearance. If you use their search and translate it, then search the same thing in Google, you'll quickly realize Baidu has no substance. And that's clearly because of China's law.
As mentioned by some posts earlier, I think the dominant search engine in China would be Baidu. I remember reading or hearing from somewhere that Google decided to back out of China after some tensions between them and the government. Had something to do with internet censorship, I believe.
I love Google. I've tried other search engines and Google by far is my favorite. My husband swears by Yahoo but I absolutely can't stand it.
