I never really paid much attention to chocolates but as I grow older I gain much more appreciation for them and especially for the subtle differences in fancy chocolates and the common brands. That said, I've been gifted a few fancy chocolates recently and they are mostly Japanese brands so I doubt I could buy them again, but I am looking for some more common brands that I could buy just for a good after meal fix. Which fancy chocolate brands do you like most?
Imported chocolates tend to be the better ones, in my experience (I'm in the US). It really depends on the type of chocolate you prefer too, as some make better offerings of different types. I like chocolate truffles. I've tried a variety of them, but none were as good as handmade candies I enjoyed when I was younger. The brand is not available near me now. It's really kind of hit or miss. I've had people tell me, "You just have to try these chocolates. They're the best!" Yet, when I try them, I don't think they're anything special. It really depends on your personal preference. I can think of worse things to do than taste testing chocolates, lol.
The most delicious chocolate that I have tasted was from the Middle East if I'm not mistaken. It was given only as a gift many years ago, so I don't even remember what it's name is. I vaguely remember that it had many various flavored fillings and was in a box.
IN the UK, we have a wide variety of premium chocolate brands. My favourites are Thornton's and Green and Black's. Swiss and Belgian chocolate is always a winner too.
During Christmas I got some See's Chocolate as a gift that was so good I could not stop eating the candy. There were some with hard centers, soft centers with marshmellows or caramel or cherries.
Ferrero Roche is my absolute favorite chocolate. The standard one has hazelnut, but comes in a few different flavors. My favorite is the chocolate with almonds. My mouth is watering right now just thinking about it. If you are looking for quality and taste you should check them out.
Exactly. Ferrero Rocher. I wasn't sure if that would be considered a 'chocolate' insomuch as a general candy. Do you eat it the way I do? By layers? I love eating it in layers. Everyone thinks I'm a weirdo.
Godiva is one of my favorites and I would treat myself in their shop every now and then. Bendicks is another favorite of mine and Lindt truffles. In the US it's the only decent chocolate you can get, it's a shame it's so expensive there, but it's the only way to get good chocolate.
I have to totally agree on Swiss and Belgian chocolate being right up there with the best. It always tastes so smooth and decadent! I also love chocolate truffles. My favourite chocolate though, is the simple and unpretentious Kinder Bueno. It's light and crisp and just DELICIOUS. Wow, I almost forgot about Lindt chocolate! I love that chocolate, which on the face of it looks very simply and not really out there special. But my, it's so melt-in-the-mouth delicious! I haven't ever tasted their truffles, I bet they're like a little piece of heaven in your mouth! I'll be on the lookout for them.
Lindt chocolates are amazing indeed. The truffles are lovely, and sometimes Target has good deals on the bars. I also like Ghirardelli squares for interesting flavors, but I think sometimes they’re too insubstantial for me. Whereas I can eat one Lindt truffle and feel satisfied, I need two or three Ghirardelli squares. It seems like a bit of a cheat, but the mocha squares are irresistible. I must admit, though, the chocolate I eat the most is Dove. For a mass market brand, they’re good quality. I always treat myself to a bag or two whenever the holiday sales are happening.
You're so right. I get recommended chocolates all the time and it really is bit or miss when it comes to whether I'd like them or not. Sometimes I think the person must be trolling because the chocolate I tasted was nothing special but the person who recommended it swears by it. There are ones that are more universally liked though and I tend to gravitate towards those.
My favorite brands of chocolate are Godova and Cadburry. They tend to be more expensive than regular Hershey, but when I have sweet teeth, any chocolate will do though
