Family Dollar is a good place to shop for certain items that would be more expensive in other stores. They carry a lot basic items from hair care to cleaning products as well as clothing and housewares. Not all of their merchandise is "brand name," and you definitely get what you pay for, but for families on a budget, it's a good place to stretch your dollar.
I definitely agree. I was really shocked by the appeal and quality of their home decorative items. Some of their pictures look like they should be much more expensive. I swear if you hadn't been to the Family Dollar yourself and saw them there, you probably wouldn't know where their pictures, candle gardens, etc. came from.
I've shop at Family Dollar on numerous occasions. It happens to be the closest dollar store from my home. I usually just go in the buy a candy bar or a bag chips if I am on the run. However, I usually end up leaving with more like a pair of slippers. plastic silverware and plates and so much more. Then they usually have a coupon at the end of the receipt to come back and save 5 dollars on your next order if you spend 25 dollars. They always get me some how.
I go there from time to time to check out any deals. Actually, Family dollar is raising their prices in my area. I went for liquid detergent and it wasn't much cheaper than the same product at Walmart. The variety is also quite small. I mostly just stick to Walmart or Target unless I hear of a really good deal or there is an offer that I cannot refuse.
I have found sometimes that they are not much cheaper too, especially on certain items. For me it is also convenience because I can walk to Family Dollar but cannot walk to Walmart or the grocery store. They usually have a little bit of anything that I need - besides groceries. Their grocery selection isn't really that big. They do have some nice holiday items usually too.
I think that Family dollar is way better than it used to be. When I go in there, they actually have a lot of pretty items to decorate with for an affordable price. I was just in there the other day, and I had a hard time pulling myself out of the store! It's a great affordable store, and I would recommend it to about anyone. They have basically everything you might need for living besides meats, veggies, and maybe some other things that you would only find at the grocery store.
We have a couple of Family Dollars her in Oklahoma, I used to go all the time but haven't been in awhile, but not because I don't like going to Family Dollar, but because I have been busy moving and stuff. Although, I am planning on going there within the next couple of days to buy some things for the house. They have a really nice selection of products for the house inside and out, I love shopping there because I never know what I am going to find. They have different stuff all the time and their prices are reasonable.
They do have a nice variety and the quality is usually a little better than at the 'other' dollar-type stores. The thing I really like about Family Dollar is that they seem to have more household things...lamps, decor, etc. and seasonal stuff for Christmas and other holidays.
I have heard from others that Family Dollar is not really so great. But everyone has different opinions on what makes a store good or not. I've never actually been to a Family Dollar because we don't have one in my town. There is one a few towns away so maybe I'll check it out sometime. We do have a Dollar Tree here and I love it. That is one of the "everything's a dollar" stores, and although it's awful for somethings, I have found some really great items there. I needed a pizza wheel and so I bought one there, and it is the best one I've ever owned! I've spent more than $6 on some of the other ones I've had over the years, and this one was of course $1 and it works great. Others haven't been sharp enough or something because I'll have to keep cutting over the same slice multiple times. That doesn't happen with this one. The Dollar Tree is also great for storage containers and glow sticks. My kids love those!
