Well, the GREEN makes sense since he's patron-saint of the emerald isle. And the shamrock (three-leafed clover)---that's Saint Patrick's illustration of the Triune Entity. And Christianity-itself is in the habit of 'repurposing pagan traditions for it's own intentions' (take Christmas - the day and a lot of its traditions are 'Saturnalia repurposed.')
Well, whether our patron saint is rolling in his grave or not, it is a good time for laughter with friends and teaching our children a bit about our rich heritage. It brings people together to celebrate instead of protest and hate each other. So, it means we dance in parades, dress in green, eat everything green, and drink until we crawl. All of us Irish men and women are happy to share a wee bit o' Irish luck with our brothers and sisters on St. Patty's day and wait until next year to add to our collections of festive greens!
