Only 10% off price? I think I wouldn't buy anything I don't need with such a small discount. In my opinion, 30% and more is a real discount.

I don't usually get distracted by such gimmicks of offering customers a slight discount if they were to spend a certain amount at a particular shop online. However, if that offer coincidentally comes from a shop that has something I've always been wanting to get, there goes all my resolve and I usually will add item after item into the cart! I really "hate" the "Others who have purchased this item also browsed..." sections because it usually just tempts me to buy more than I intended to buy. I have a soft spot for buying books online and every time I've just added a book into my cart, I will see another one that I want being recommended and more often than not, I'll end up buying it, comforting myself that I'm making good use of the discount! I guess I'm not the only one who is guilty of this!

A discount that low on something I am already needing to get is still in my book a blessing. Yet if its an item I didn't really need or will someday I will skip it because ten percent is not enough to make me buy it. My favorite discount sis the 50% or more off deals!

No, I'm one of those "Stick to your Budget" people. I make a list of what I need, then I search out coupons and discounts for those specific items. Things of interest that I see while I'm shopping go onto my "Look into Later" list -- I don't EVER buy something on a whim. Unfortunately, I've been burned way too many times, and just grown wary of having buyers remorse over and over. I consider those 10% off coupons to be "icing on the cake" since I was going to make the purchase anyway. It doesn't entice me to spend more at all.

Yes. I guess this is also something we have to watch out for in buying coupons. Initially, the coupons may seem like a sincere effort to help consumers save money. But, actually, it can also be a strategy to make consumers spend more. We should also bear in mind that we should only use the coupons when we need to. Otherwise, the value in saving money is somehow taken for granted and overshadowed.

It is definitely the "Free Shipping" that sucks me in. I usually get a coupon or some sort of rewards program that results in a discount but when checkout time comes, I will tend to find a way to reach the minimum amount to get that "Free Shipping". I think overall I end up spending more than saving because of this.

If there are other items that I was planning on purchasing anyhow, why not take advantage of the coupon and save 10% on them as well? It's kind of a waste of a coupon if you're only going to buy something for $10 and save a buck off of it. If you end up spending $100 instead and save $10, that's another $9 off stuff you were going to get eventually so you're still coming out ahead.

Forgot that, it's true! Free shipping may actually be a worse promotion than a coupon sometimes :p

I never really noticed that, but I don't think I spend more money with a coupon. I think the coupons actually make me want to savior an try to spend only want I need and what I can afford. In a way I kind of like purchasing with coupons more, because it actually helps me save money !! However this is not always the case for me though.

I don't think I spend more but I'll be more inclined to buy something if I have a coupon even if I don't really need the item. I think that's what the majority of coupons are for. To push people into buying and trying an item they normally wouldn't buy.

No, I don't, but it took me a while to get to the point where I didn't want to buy things just because I had coupons for them.

Now, I might spend more than I would have in that week, but I always make sure that I'm buying something that I would have bought ANYWAY. I'm just enjoying a lower price.

Not on the same day, but yes, in the long run I end up spending more since I get attached to the website.

For me, it depends on the amount of the discount. If it is just a 10% discount, that really isn't going to be something that would convince me to spend more than I was planning on buying in the first place. However, with a larger discount of 33% or more, I would be likely to buy more than I had originally intended on buying.

In my opinion discount coupons are only the business tactics played by the dealers only in order to increase the sales at their store. If such discounts are offered, there are people who get extremely attracted to it and make a purchase over there. The actual case is we pay a relatively equal or high amount for that product under the name of fake discounts. There are very few who genuinely offer discounts but that too not to a good extent. It is a fact that nobody feels like losing any profit and this is the only policy of the dealers.

If I get a 10% discount I face it as 10% free, so my instinct would be to buy something 10% more expensive for example. It's a good strategy from the stores though, they get costumers in the store and that's half way to make sales. I do think about what I am buying, especially when it's just 10% off, it's not a big discount! ;)

I don't usually use coupons, and that is exactly the reason why!! Whenever I have a coupon or a gift card I spend more than I would otherwise, and usually on useless things! I bought 4 shoes last time I had a coupon. Mind you I was just looking for one pair of flats!! Also, once I got an Express gift card and ended up spending almost 200 of my own money. Stores that give out coupons are really clever in my opinion. They lose a very small percentage of their earnings, but they earn a lot more overall because everyone ends up spending more.

A coupon has the effect of going grocery shopping while hungry. I ask myself to I really want it or am I just being drawn in by the coupon. It is tempting, but if you stick to a list or a reason you went shopping (online or otherwise) you will actually probably save more in the long run.

No, I don't think I have done that on retail items, although in fast foods I do buy those items that are covered by the discount coupon even if I don't really have to just so that I could save more.

It depends if i'll actually use the things that I can buy. If there's a chance that I will need the items, then yes.

My mother is ridiculous with coupons!! coupons can be great and help save money for most of us but my mom will go somewhere or buy something only because she has a coupon. Many times I have said to her "why did you buy that when you will never use it" her answer "because I had a coupon!" to her it makes sense to me..not so much. Anyone else do this? buy something just because you have a coupon, even if its an item you don't need or even want?
