Yes, technically fish are considered as pets because you feed them and care for them, but like you, I also think of the same thing. I want a pet that I can pet, hold and carry in my hands. That's why taking care of fishes never really appealed to me.

I know right. Fish are just like any other pet in the sense that they are living and breathing creatures, even if they do have the unnatural ability to breathe underwater lol, as well as you not actually being able to interact with them. I do find that if you go near the fish tank and talk to them, they will gravitate towards your face, and kind of open-mouth kiss the glass of the tank??

    It's cute as hell.

Really? We used to have fish as pets before, but I never really paid attention to them, even more talk to them. I will observe that kind of behavior once I come across an aquarium. So I assume that you have fish as pets? I think lizards and snakes are also in the same category as fishes, since even though you can technically hold them, those kind of pets don't really show any enthusiasm or affection towards you.

Yeah, I have two pet fishes, and our fishes do seem to do that. The kids in my household love them, and always have their faces more or less pressed up against the glass. Though fishes need a certain amount of light a day, I think. So we have to tell the kids to back off sometimes lol. I would never keep a lizard or a snake. I think they are gross lol. But to each their own.

I see. How often do you clean their tank? What's the kind of fishes that you own? Do you intend to add more in the future? Because we only had 3 before, plus a lobster, an Arowana, and 2 Fighting Fish. I also had a pet turtle once, and I also didn't like it that much because it can't show any affection, lol.

I used to! I love all animals and fish are the underdog in the pet world. They don't get nearly the love anything else does. They have feelings too.. which is why I don't agree with fishing or eating fish. Poor things. I used to buy fish, but they never lived long and these days, I don't agree with pets that have to be confined. They don't deserve to be in small aquariums.. they need to have their freedom to move around as much as they want. Birds, fish, lizards etc.. I just don't like caging animals, I find it cruel. Same with crating dogs, I just don't like them.

I can see the appeal of keeping fish - whilst you can't take them for a walk or play with them, they are still living creatures and can be really interesting. They certainly require a lot of specialist care though, so wouldn't be suitable for everyone. Personally, I think fish belong in rivers, streams and seas and not in small tanks.

Yup, fish are definitely pets. You feed them, take care of them, and love them like you would any other pet. Some people can get really caught up with fishes.

I am not the one who cleans their tanks. My mother's boyfriend usually handles that job. The kids are the ones who feed the fish every day. I'm more of the person, along with my mother, who just stands back and admirers the beautiful little creatures. I have no idea what type the fishes are. I just know that they are very exotic looking.

I do think fish can make wonderful pets and they are totally worth it. I have had several fish during my lifetime and all of them were pretty wonderful. I totally love these fish.

I agree. I totally think that pets are worthwhile pets too. On top of being great pets, they are fabulous for the aesthetic of the room. When I get my own house, I want an entire wall dedicated to an aquarium, though I have no idea if the tank would need changing or how to go about changing it for the fishes?

Yes of course! Your question is kind of surprising by the way. Anyways my first pet was actually a goldfish and i guess i was a bad pet keeper because it died in my care. I cried and cried and beat myself up over my pet's death but eventually i got over it and forgave myself but decided won't get a fish pet ever again. :(

How long after having it, did the goldfish die?? My little sister won her goldfish from a fairground in Stouport, and it lasted for about two years. It only died recently, and the other two fish in the tank with it, had begun to nibble or chew at it?? I had no idea that fishes ate one another once dead though. Strange :/

I said in a previous post here that fish were hobbies and not pets. Well, after taking a few surveys listing fish as pets I rescind my previous post. Fish are indeed considered as pets.

I do not think that fish are exactly pets, although many people consider having a fish the same as having a pet. Some of the Koi do learn to come up to be fed, and I have even heard of some that will apparently let you touch them. To me, this is still a lot different than having a cat or dog that will actually follow you around, and enjoys being close to you.
in the sense that you have them for no purpose other than to look at them , and perhaps be entertained; they could be considered a pet, but even more appropriate is calling them a hobby, in my way of thinking.

If I had to pick between having a fish as a pet and a cat or a dog or something, then I'd definitely pick the cat or dog, although I am afraid of dogs a little. Not to be a stereotypical lesbian, but I'm more of a cat person lol!! Still, the fishes are lovely pets for those who are into that sort of thing, and for those who can appreciate such creatures. They are absolutely beautiful and calming to the senses.

Sure, they can be considered a pet! But of course they are not as exciting as a cat or a dog, they are more of a visual pet. It's nice to look at them, put on food, clean their fish bowl, but there is not so much more you can do!

Yes I actually have pet fish in my house. I have goldfish, janapase choi and flowerhorn. They are easy to have as pet. There foods are not very costly. I only pay for food and filtration device. They are fun to watch. According to Chinese experts they bring luck to the family.

They are a living being that's living in a confined space and only dependent on you to survive, they definitely are pets.

I'm sorry Aladar but you missed my post earlier in January where I changed my mind and do see fish as pets.
