I have recently started to have this problem with my computer. In the middle of being online I get this message with a blue screen that says MS shut down due to stopping damage to computer. When this happen the first time I didn't worry too much about it, but now its happen twice. The last time it happened this morning it seem as if I was having trouble getting back online. Apparently the problem has something to do with new software being installed, but I don't know from where, I haven't installed anything recently to my computer. This frightens me because I had another computer crash on me about a few years back. I am afraid this is a sign that this one could be crashing as well. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can fix this problem? Hopefully I will be able to get back on to get your suggestions. This system is windows xp, if that helps to come up with a solution.

Install windows again, this is the fastest way to solve this problem. The blue screen is a classical windows problem.

The blue screen is the Blue Screen of Death. To me it sounds as if you have some type of virus, malware, or spyware installed. I assume that you have some type of anti-virus software installed. Run a virus check. If that doesn't find anything, then use the System Restore function under the Control Panel. Select restore to an earlier time. Go back to before you system first crashed.

    Hope this helps.

I'm not sure if you have a virus or not but to be on the safe side I'd suggest you download Malwarebytes (free edition) and run a deep scan of your PC. Then download Superantispyware (free edition) and run a deep scan with that. Superantispyware often picks up things the Malwarebytes free edition usually misses. After you run both, if they find anything, put them in quarantine, and find out more about the virus online. Then delete them and re-start your system. After re-starting your system, run another scan with both of them.

This is an all day job, but it's worth doing to save your computer from infection.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I will definitely try some of these and see if they work. Fortunately, I have now found out that I'm not the only one having this problem in my home. My sister has apparently been having the same issue for a few months now. Somehow that made me feel better that this system wasn't crashing after all because apparently its common problem with Windows. I will share your suggestions with her as well.

Hi, were you able to resolve the issue? What windows version were you using when you had this problem? I've only had this problem in the past with windows xp and that was because the hard drive was failing.
