I am aware that 'cheese' is not really a question but there is more to it.

I am always buying, so it seems, expensive cheese. I am not aware of whether this is because cheese is expensive overall or that I just have expensive cheese taste. I tend to feel my taste is not very expensive but I want to know if anyone has suggestions as to where to purchase quality cheese? I want good to great quality for a reasonable price if possible.

From what I've read and been told, cheese is one of the most often stolen items in grocery stores, which may explain some of its high price. It is rather frustrating though when they want like $8-$10 for a little piece of it. A freaking cheese platter can run you close to $100 if you aren't careful. I've noticed some grocery stores now are having in house cheese experts just as they would with wine.

The only places I've seen some cheeses at a little more reasonable prices would be at restaurant supply stores such as GFS. But you need to buy the cheeses in bulk to get the savings and if you don't eat them in time they will obviously go bad.

A higher price tag doesn't necessarily mean a better cheese though too. I've had some rather pricey cheddars with crystals in them that I thought was awful, I could barely finish the package.

If I ever go back to buying cheese again, it will be from someone that specializes in it. There is a place not far from me, it's not your grocery store cheese, that's for sure. I want untainted, REAL cheese. It's likely more expensive, but the least processed and tainted the better. Plus I've heard some SUPER nasty stories about the cheese in grocery stores.. my stomach turns just thinking about it and I'll never even crave it again, much less buy it.

I think the high price comes from most fancy cheeses being imported. Our local ones aren't too expensive, but of course, they aren't as high quality. Some of them are still pretty delicious, though, but the variety is lacking.

My mom bought this cheese called "Raclette" cheese and it doesn't smell good, so I didn't even bother to taste it. It's quite expensive too, so you might want to look in specialty stores for that. My mom bought it because she read that it tastes good but she didn't like it all, so it just got to waste. Maybe you will have a different opinion once you have tasted it?

I assume that you are talking about "real cheese" and the slice variety. There are some good cheese varieties that you can look into buying. Though, if you are looking for the "good" kind then you will dish out more money then you would like. The kind of cheese I like to buy is provolone and american. These varieties are usually bought from a local producer that is certified organic.

Cheese is generally pretty expensive. Sometimes, I want to kick myself for buying a $15.00 bag of cheese. But, it's worth it since I eat it all the time and it never goes to waste.
I live in Nevada, and I usually purchase my cheese from Trader Joes. They have really reasonable prices. Where do you live? If you live near a Trader Joe's, I would definitely recommend checking that place out. Also, the selection and quality is top notch.

Cheese is a very generic question. There are different types of cheese, with different quality and maturing processes.

"Young" cheeses are often cheaper than aged cheese, but one good way to save money in cheese is making your own. The process is not hat hard and you can always have cheese at hand.

Here are some procedures to make cheese at home:

I am not a cheese lover, but I do eat it quite often and so do my kids and wife. We usually buy sliced cheese so our main requirement apart flavor and price is really that the slices separate themselves easily, I just hate when I try to pull a slice and it breaks over and over again...

I love cheese! I like it more than butter. I seem to want to put cheese to everything I eat. If only I could really do that though. Gouda is my favorite!
