So the prescription I just got was $80 a month for the name brand...or only $9 for the generic. When I talked to the doctor about it, he said this is one where the generic is pretty much the same and only the fillers are slightly different. That was a HUGE savings for me considering I don't have insurance. Do you buy generic meds ever?
I'll always look for the generic alternative - whether it's prescription drugs or anything else. As long as the active ingredients are identical, the drug is going to do what it says on the packet. Brand fillers only serve to make the product look or taste better, and if you're looking to save some cash, window dressing doesn't come into it.
I will always go with generic unless it's something that I can't handle generic. For example, I can't take generic vicodin. It has to be the real thing or it gives me a HORRIBLE headache.
I'm ok with generic medications! The price is cheap yet they almost function like the original. It is also medically advisable to always use generics first before going for the original drugs. The logic is that if the opposite was to be done then the generics might not serve you well.
