How much would you said you spend per person/per meal when cooking at home? We are usually sitting at around $5 which I think is a pretty good cost, it's a frugal value without being *too* frugal and compromising the quality.
When I'm really cooking at home, I may have a few too many choice steaks and pork chops on the menu to whittle the costs down to $5 a meal, so I'll go with at least $7-10 adding in the side dishes and beverages.
