I'm curious if anyone knows of some really good home remedies for burns. I just burned myself on my oven while cooking breakfast for my daughter. I immediately put my wrist under cold water, but it's really hurting me, and I think I'll have a huge blister.

I don't have Aloe Vera, and I thought about maybe Vaseline, but I can't think of much else. Any suggestions? Preferably something most people would have around The House.

I don't know if this works well for everyone, but my mom swears by it. All she does it ice the burn for a good while after it happens. Cold water right away, and if it's a finger she'll soak the finger in a glass of cold ice water for maybe 30 minutes to an hour. Sometimes she'll soak it again later if it's still hurting pretty badly. Then I think she puts Neosporin on it eventually. I usually just ice it as well, but not for as long as she does it...
    Hope you feel better! :)

Thank you so much! I did put cold water on it for quite awhile, and it worked well. Didn't even get a blister. Again, I appreciate it. Quick fix for free works for me!

The only thing I know of is aloe lotion or vasaline and to make sure you keep it wrapped up for a little bit than letting it air out before wrapping it back up. I have heard of some people using tobacco on burns but not sure how well it works.

My mom keeps an aloe vera plant for burn emergencies. If not aloe is around then cold water or ice cubes are best. Once I mistakenly picked up a hot cast iron skillet. I kept my hand in the freezer for about 20 minutes.

I don't think Vaseline is good for burns.

It's been a day since your post and I have found too that to cool it off quickly is the best and keep icing or cold water. Seems that worked for you. Now if you do have any blister that comes up remember it is a break of the skin and neosporine or other antiseptic keeps the germs out. Vasoline is just petroleum jelly and will not help with the germs and if fact just make a sticky residue that will pick things up (including germs). Glad you are feeling better.

You could use Aloe Vera, it is supposed to soothe burns. Please don't use Vaseline, that is the worst thing you can rub on a burn. My advice would be to stay hydrated, eat plenty of protein and healthy food in general and sleep well. This will speed up the recovery process.

Is the burn an open wound? I decided not to cover my burn so it would dry out quickly. You are more open to infection but if you are careful and keep it clean it shouldn't be an issue.

Aloe Vera is definitely the best th ing for a burn or a wound of most any kind. When you don't have that, then the cold water like you did is probably the next nest thing. I have also read that vinegar is supposed to help with healing a burn, and so is vitamin E capsules.
I have never tried vinegar, but vitamin E does seem to really help the healing process. I don't know that it will stop the pain like aloe Vera does, though.
Any kind of oil or grease is not supposed to be good, especially right after burning it. The ice water right at first is probably the very best for then.

I'm with Happyflowerlady on this one. I have an Aloe Vera plant in my house for over 10 years now and when any of us get burned I use it. Just last month my kid got burned in the toaster and it was not nice, I put the aloe on him with a bandage and in a few days it was healed.

The first thing to do is soak it to cold water. You can also put ice later. Another home remedy is by putting toothpaste. It has a cold effect that helps not to spread the heat. There are some over the counter creams that can also be used. Try to avoid something that is oily because it absorb heat and won't help.

I would recommend to use some aloe Vera or some soothing cream that doesn't have any kind of alcohol or something that can irritate the skin. I also try to just out ice and slightly just lather it on the skin so that the infected area goes numb a little.

Never put Vasoline on a burn. It makes it worse. It does not let air get to the burn and the heat stays inside making the burn worse. Best course of action is cool to room temperature water. After the burning has subsided, then you can put on antibacterial medicines.

It depends on the degree of burn a person has. I usually buy the burn ointment of both first and second degree burn. It actually works quite well, and one thing good about it is that it's not that expensive.

I think Neosporin would work. If I had young children I would just think to have Aleo Vera. I think this might work best. Maybe, you should think about budgeting it in soon. This could happen to your daughter also.
