I was wondering how everyone planned their menus and if anyone had any recipes that can be considered frugal (or can be made frugal with off brand items). I have made what I call a poor man's stew. All it consists of is smoked sausages (I can get the little links at an Amish store here really cheap usually 1.99 a pack of 1 pound), canned green beans (with the juice) and potatoes. You put it all in a pot (with the green bean juice NOT water as it will dilute the flavor) and boil it, after boiling simmer it until the potatoes are soft. Everything takes on the flavor of the sausage, it is cheap to make and it is a HUGE hit with my family. What are your cheap takes on food?
