The $5 fill up, $5 big box, 5 buck lunch (or whatever term they use) seems to be really popular right now. They seem to offer a good amount of food in some of these, for the price.

Every place seems to have them now, at least around here. Do you take advantage of these deals?

My husband and I don't usually do much fast food, but we were out and about one day and got really hungry. We ended up splitting the deal at Popeye's. We each got a piece of chicken and a side each, and there was also a biscuit. I think it's still a good deal for one person too, but it's a great deal when it's enough to split.

I do take advantage when those kind of deals are available. They are usually great and worth the buck. I, like yourself will also be able to share the meal with my husband and even daughter. I find them to be quite popular here where I live aswell especially in well known fast food restaurants.

I haven't encountered the $5 promo so far, but I have encountered the $2.05 fill-up box promo of KFC. I haven't tried it yet, but when I am craving for some KFC I will try that one. It sounds reasonably cheap to me. I just wonder if the quality or the ingredients used in them are cheaper because of how it's priced.

As you say, nearly every fast food outlet these days has these deals on and it's no surprise that more and more people are choosing to eat here than anywhere else. While the food might not be the healthiest, it is tasty, convenient and cheap, so ticks all the boxes if your wanting to eat out on a budget.

I've priced it up in the past, and if I buy food from a local supermarket to make my own dinners for work, it would only cost the same as taking advantage of these daily deals so I do tend to do that more than I used to. Like I said the only issue is the amount of salt, sugar and fat in the meals but most fat food outlets are introducing healthier options so even that isn't as big of an issue as it used to be.

I think more people will be eating fast food over the next couple of months too. People who do all the cooking for the holidays will want a break. Other people will stop for something to eat while they are out scouring the stores for deals on items on their Christmas list.

I don't generally like to eat this stuff, as I said, but it really was a good deal (price wise). We were out longer than planned, and still quite a way from home, so it works in a pinch. As far as health goes, even some of the "healthy" options leave a lot to be desired. At least there are more choices now though. You can actually get some fruit or a salad.

The one that catches my eye the most is Dairy Queen. I also see the ads for Burger King quite a bit, but Dairy Queen is closer, so I probably pay more attention to their ads. I like the idea of a $5 lunch, and I do like DQ's food, but fried chicken and french fries, plus a sundae and a soda seems really unhealthy.

I just looked to see if they had another offering, and I see that their (DQs) $5 lunch deal was extended to an all day deal through the end of October, so if anyone's interested, they can get it all day today or tomorrow. I would like to have a bit more variety, maybe a choice of a side salad with the fried chicken, or tacos and some sort of salad or other side.

I like the Burger King 2 whopper, 2 fries and 2 drinks for $10 deal, but I'm usually eating lunch alone, so don't need that much food. I just noticed Burger King has a 2/$4 deal where you get 2 bacon, egg and cheese Croissan'wiches, and that sounds like a nice deal.

My kids like the DQ one too, @Diane Lane@Diane Lane. One of them works at Dairy Queen. Once in a while, she will bring her sister the chicken strip lunch deal for a little treat. Since the younger ones does not like ice cream, sis keeps the sundae for herself. They both get something out of the deal. You really can't beat that for five bucks, can you?

I do wish the salads and stuff were on offer. Anything that is described as "healthy" seems to have a higher price tag.

As for Burger King, I see an add for 10 chicken nuggets for $1.49 quite often. If I remember correctly, most places only offer like four nuggets for that price, so it seems like a deal.

I think it could be just as economical for the restaurants to use salads as a side, because the portions wouldn't have to be huge. I have always enjoyed the side salads at Wendy's, and they're inexpensive and tasty. One thing I like about cafeteria style restaurants (such as Luby's) is that I can get a healthy meal that's not too expensive, and don't have to cook it myself. I know fast food restaurants aren't going to provide that type of menu for $5, but it would be nice to see a smaller portion of french fries or other fried foods along with a side of carrots, salad, etc.

Yes, that's what I had in mind as well, the small side salads. The larger salads are more expensive to make, so of course, they need to charge more for them. I'd rather have the small one anyway. I think Wendy's might have a side salad on their value menu or whatever that particular chains calls their offer board.

I do like that you can get apple slices instead of fries in some kid's meals. A grilled chicken sandwich with some apples and milk is a better choice than a greasy cheeseburger and fries.

You can also get yogurt as a side, which isn't bad as long as it isn't loaded with sugar. I haven't tried it yet to see.

I just love to avail such deals!
KFC offers some lucrative deals on Wednesdays. I wait to grab them as you get twice the usual amount on those days. Wednesday deals are there in Pizza Hut as well. In fact, now Wednesday has become my 'feast on fast food' day owing such tempting deals.

I love a good deal, but I'm not a huge fan of fast food. It is definitely convenient and some of it is even tempting at times. Generally though, I try to avoid it. Sometimes, it works in a pinch, especially if there is a really good deal, like the ones you listed.

For those with small children, there are also sometimes deals that allow kids to eat free with a paid adult. For every adult meal that is purchased, one child can also receive a free meal. I've seen at least a couple of signs boasting this offer lately. One was for a buffet place. I think Pizza Hut used to do this as well, but I'm not sure if they still have that offer.

It's funny that you say that you're not really a fan of fast food @thisnthat@thisnthat and it makes me wonder just how many people actually still eat in the fast food places simply because of the price? I myself know a couple of people that go for lunch in the local McDonald's and that's simply because they are the cheapest place around where we work to buy lunch from. They aren't over keen on the food itself, but they would rather buy that than pay sometimes double that price to go and buy something that they do like.

I really don't like McDonald's. It's probably my least favorite of them all, but my kids like it. I can't even stand the smell of it most of the time.

I very rarely eat fast food, but some of those places do have good deals. I go past several of these places every time I go into the city, and it seems like most of them have something on offer every time I pass by. I can see why people get tempted.

I'd really rather eat in a better restaurant, and these days. I think sit down restaurants tend to be the best value (better food, comparable prices). As for fast food being cheaper, it's really only true if you stick to the offers and the value menus. I'm sure a lot of people do choose them for that reason, even when it's not their favorite thing to eat.

I can't remember coming across any deal of this kind since I started going for fast food. It's always be pay and get service accordingly no bonus no deal. I'll be happy to come across good deals like this. I consider this $5 fill up deal a reasonable one. Maybe I should start trying out other fast food brands, been used to just one.

I do and mostly because they are usually for people without money. I can get 3 pieces of chicken, a good amount of potato wedges and a drink for around 5 dollars. Actually, make that 4 dollars. I tend to buy 3 -dollar combos because that is what they mostly offer in my area.
